Grace's Baptism

On November 1st Grace was baptized by her father. It was a wonderful ceremony. Grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles and friends attended. Grace was so excited to follow the exmple of our Savior. She looked so beautiful in her baptism dress. Thank you to all that made the drive to Rexburg to make this such a wonderful experience.

Nanette Honored

Nanette organized The Proform Airborne Extreme Jump Rope Show October 18th 2008. It was an incredible success. She and several other parents spent hours, resulting in a fantastic experience for all involved. I wish we could post the entire 30 minute show...it is amazing.

Extreme Jump Rope Show

CALEB'S HIGHLIGHTS

Proform Airborne put on a fantastic show October 18th 2008. We had three USA National Team Members there. Over 1000 people came to see the show. Nanette was in charge of putting the show together and was made an honorary team member. I have made a photo-library of some of Hannah and Caleb's highlights. The last few pictures of Hannah's highlight's, Proform is pulling off, possibly the largest rainbow routine ever performed (30 Jumpers...no mistakes). Enjoy....

BYU Soccer Antiques

Spent the weekend in Provo mixing it up with the BYU soccer alumni. It was so much fun. Cory Cuvelier (1991-92) don't look a day older than 25... right? We played BYU-I under the lights friday night and had an alumni game on good old Haws Field saturday morning. Mike Woolley gave a hearty "Hi Ho" to pass along to Ben Allred (1990-91 BYU soccer alumni). Head coach Chris Watkins even remembered 'Rexburg Caleb' from soccer summer camps.

Redwood Vacation

We spent a week in Northern California August 2008. The Redwood Forest is an amazing site. It is exciting to be so close to living organisms that old, tall and awe inspiring. The coast provided an abundant wildlife adventure; starfish, anemone, whales, harbor seals, otters, pelican, banana slugs, and California Rednecks were everywhere. We stayed in a rental home in Trinidad California and found out "hot tub" in the brochure was actually the communal hot tub three blocks away behind the Catholic church, fragrantly located two feet from the compost pile.

Top of Utah Marathon

The Top of Utah Marathon was a great experience. It was so great having most of our family there (Caleb had 2 soccer games in Idaho) I finished my first Marathon in 4:09. Kevin and Shanna Duke were great hosts(thanks guys). I hit a major wall @ mile 17 but thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The absolute best part was seeing Nanette and the girls at the finish line. No major injuries and amazing scenery along the way. I'm hoping to do the SLC marathon with Matt and Shane. Nanette, Hannah & Caleb may do the 5k. I saw a bumper sticker that weekend that said, "running a marathon is cheaper than psychotherapy". After the year we have had I may need to run several more.

Pocatello Half Marathon

I just finished the Pocatello Half Marathon Labor Day weekend. This finish line photo is a great representation of me telling myself that I am crazy to run the Logan full marathon September 20th. I finished in 1:47.

Wind Cave Hike

On Saturday Dad, Hannah & Caleb took a day hike together. The Wind Cave trully lives up to its name(very windy & cold). It is pictured just above the children and you can see a waterfall flowing just below the opening of the cave. The scenery was breathtaking. We spent about three and a half hours hiking, exploring the cave and veiwing the brilliant wildflowers of the Targhee National forest. The trailhead is about a 45 minute drive from our front door. We didn't have time to see the ice cave which is one mile from the Wind Cave.

Coldplay Concert

Nanette and I had a great weekend in Las Vegas!! We saw the 'Bodies' exhibit and it was absolutely amazing. They have created some intricate exhibits that place the creation of the human body as the greatest work of art in my book.(They did however mislable the cervix...no biggy). The highlight of the trip...besides being with Nanette for an uninterrupted 36 hours...was the Coldplay concert. We had a blast. We have front row seats for the concert on Nov 21st in Denver. We are taking Hannah and Caleb to the Nov 22nd concert in SLC. VIVA LA VIDA BABY!!!

Ashby/Allred Outdoor Adventure

We had the best weekend with the Ashby's. We spent time in St Anthony swimming and floating the river. Nanette, John, Carmen and Grace floated about 20 feet away from a big bull moose. We all went to Jackson and did the Jenny Lake hike. The children were awesome hikers. I think the energy pills helped (candy). John and Ryan did a fair amount of piggy back rides but we all made it back. It was so nice to have them in our home. We love visitors and have such wonderful places to visit. So come on up to Idaho y'all.

For my birthday, John surprised me with a plane ticket to SC to see my friend Ginny. We went to the midnight release of Breaking Dawn. I read until at least 5 a.m., which was O.K because I could sleep in as long as I wanted. Later, I continued to read while soaking up the sun on Myrtle Beach. John really scored some good husband points...He's as good as Edward.

Junior Olympics 2008

Proform Airborne cleaned house in Reno this year! Hannah and Caleb each earned several medals (8-9 each). Hannah's double dutch team recieved the all around gold medal because they are simply awesome and have 'backflip Hannah'. She can do a backflip into the double dutch ropes. The coaches asked her to show several of the jumpers how at a clinic held the following day. Caleb took the all around individual gold medal in his age group. They are both doing awesome. Videos are forthcoming.

LEFT BRAIN THOUGHTS FROM A LEFT BRAINED KIND OF GUY

I often encounter patients who seek out opportunities to, 'stump the doctor'. It's fun and sometimes quite entertaining. Here is the last 'attempt' from a 30 week pregnant patient and her husband... "Dr. Allred my wife and I are going to California this week, is it safe for her to be out in the sun?'
me: "Yes it is safe as long as appropriate precautions are taken and you use common sense."
"Are tanning beds considered safe?"
me:"I would recommend not using the tanning bed during pregnancy for various reasons."
"Well then what's the difference between being on the beach and using a tanning bed?"
me(and this stumped him)" The differnce is simple...you can't sue God for making the sun too hot but you can sue the owner of the tanning bed if your baby has any complications from either one."
I know it's not much but I thought it was fun...I love the logic of the left side of the brain...

Is running safe?

Teton Dam Marathon: I'm pictured here with Jeff Roderick our lead off leg for the relay. We took third place losing to a group of caffeinated teenagers and hormone crazed college students. Not bad for a group of married men in their 30's. Matt Allred and I ran the Canyon to Canyon 1/2 Marathon in July. It was Matt's first 1/2 Marathon and he did it less than 2 hours !! He also suffered a stress fracture in his foot. I am scheduled for the Pocatello 1/2 marathon Aug 30th and the top of Utah full Marathon the end of September. I will be submitting my living will to my lawyer the day before.

Christmas in NYC

Late entry obviously but don't we look good in a big city. We had so much fun in NYC. We hit as many site's as we could in four days. We stayed at the Marriot Marquis, saw four musicals, went to the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, Chinatown, Ellis Island, Rockefellar Center and ate @ some great resturaunts. It was great for me to be able to speak the language (ie east coastish). We also spent half of the week in Vermont with Ben & Jen and their boys. When we talk about the trip the highlight was definitely spending time with them in Vermont. Family is just the greatest.

Sienfeld Weekend

Nanette and I went to see Jerry Sienfeld this weekend. It was great and surprisingly clean. We also spent some time with the Vermont Allreds and had a fantastic time. Taylor, Ethan and Weston are growing up so fast. I think they would grow much faster if they moved to Idaho.

JR. OLYMPICS ARE COMING (Cotton Eye Joe)

This is from 2006. We should have more videos after Junior Olympics for both Caleb and Hannah. They go to Reno July 11-13th. GOOD LUCK HANNAH & CALEB!!!

Jump Rope Video

Sorry, I couldn't figure out how to rotate the video. This is Hannah's regionals 2006 single routine where she took fourth place her first year in competition.

We absolutely loved going down to Utah for Mom's 60th birthday. We are so grateful for all mom has done for us. The book is a wonderful tribute to her and the example she has been to all of us. We love you Mom.
Caleb is doing fantastic this year. So far the 'Madison Diski' are undefeated after 10 games. They start the Idaho Falls Shootout this weekend and the on to the Pocatello Friendship Cup next weekend.

Our Artist

Grace has become quite the artist. This is her latest work. Grandma Allred is the third choir member from the lest on the front row. We will miss you during conference Mom. We love you.

Soccer Shots

We must include our family's David Beckham moment. Caleb was able to meet David in SLC and get this picture. Nanette went back to get his autograph. Mr. Beckham has yet to return our Christmas cards. Caleb's competative outdoor team won their first game 6-2 last week and Caleb got his first yellow card for dissent. He now joins the ranks of Allred soccer players capable of irritating referee's without significant effort. Way to go Caleb.

Region 12 Jump Rope

Hannah and Caleb just finished the regional jumprope competition in Boise Idaho. They were fantastic. Hannah jumped in the very competative girls 13-14 year age group came away with two 6th place ribbons, two fifth place ribbons and one fourth place ribbon qualifying for a spot at the National Jump Rope tournament in Orlando Florida. Hannah's single routine included a roundoff back tuck. Caleb also qualified for Nationals with three second place ribbons, three third place, one fifth and one sixth place ribbon. He took second with his boys 11-12 year age group single freestyle. They will likely be competing in the West Coast Junior Olympics this summer to better prepare for the National competition next year. If you haven't seen our kids show off at half-time shows you are missing a real treat.
