Wind Cave Hike

On Saturday Dad, Hannah & Caleb took a day hike together. The Wind Cave trully lives up to its name(very windy & cold). It is pictured just above the children and you can see a waterfall flowing just below the opening of the cave. The scenery was breathtaking. We spent about three and a half hours hiking, exploring the cave and veiwing the brilliant wildflowers of the Targhee National forest. The trailhead is about a 45 minute drive from our front door. We didn't have time to see the ice cave which is one mile from the Wind Cave.

Coldplay Concert

Nanette and I had a great weekend in Las Vegas!! We saw the 'Bodies' exhibit and it was absolutely amazing. They have created some intricate exhibits that place the creation of the human body as the greatest work of art in my book.(They did however mislable the cervix...no biggy). The highlight of the trip...besides being with Nanette for an uninterrupted 36 hours...was the Coldplay concert. We had a blast. We have front row seats for the concert on Nov 21st in Denver. We are taking Hannah and Caleb to the Nov 22nd concert in SLC. VIVA LA VIDA BABY!!!

Ashby/Allred Outdoor Adventure

We had the best weekend with the Ashby's. We spent time in St Anthony swimming and floating the river. Nanette, John, Carmen and Grace floated about 20 feet away from a big bull moose. We all went to Jackson and did the Jenny Lake hike. The children were awesome hikers. I think the energy pills helped (candy). John and Ryan did a fair amount of piggy back rides but we all made it back. It was so nice to have them in our home. We love visitors and have such wonderful places to visit. So come on up to Idaho y'all.

For my birthday, John surprised me with a plane ticket to SC to see my friend Ginny. We went to the midnight release of Breaking Dawn. I read until at least 5 a.m., which was O.K because I could sleep in as long as I wanted. Later, I continued to read while soaking up the sun on Myrtle Beach. John really scored some good husband points...He's as good as Edward.

Junior Olympics 2008

Proform Airborne cleaned house in Reno this year! Hannah and Caleb each earned several medals (8-9 each). Hannah's double dutch team recieved the all around gold medal because they are simply awesome and have 'backflip Hannah'. She can do a backflip into the double dutch ropes. The coaches asked her to show several of the jumpers how at a clinic held the following day. Caleb took the all around individual gold medal in his age group. They are both doing awesome. Videos are forthcoming.

LEFT BRAIN THOUGHTS FROM A LEFT BRAINED KIND OF GUY

I often encounter patients who seek out opportunities to, 'stump the doctor'. It's fun and sometimes quite entertaining. Here is the last 'attempt' from a 30 week pregnant patient and her husband... "Dr. Allred my wife and I are going to California this week, is it safe for her to be out in the sun?'
me: "Yes it is safe as long as appropriate precautions are taken and you use common sense."
"Are tanning beds considered safe?"
me:"I would recommend not using the tanning bed during pregnancy for various reasons."
"Well then what's the difference between being on the beach and using a tanning bed?"
me(and this stumped him)" The differnce is simple...you can't sue God for making the sun too hot but you can sue the owner of the tanning bed if your baby has any complications from either one."
I know it's not much but I thought it was fun...I love the logic of the left side of the brain...

Is running safe?

Teton Dam Marathon: I'm pictured here with Jeff Roderick our lead off leg for the relay. We took third place losing to a group of caffeinated teenagers and hormone crazed college students. Not bad for a group of married men in their 30's. Matt Allred and I ran the Canyon to Canyon 1/2 Marathon in July. It was Matt's first 1/2 Marathon and he did it less than 2 hours !! He also suffered a stress fracture in his foot. I am scheduled for the Pocatello 1/2 marathon Aug 30th and the top of Utah full Marathon the end of September. I will be submitting my living will to my lawyer the day before.
